THE JOY OF MOVEMENT

Mindful movement is not a potion which cures all or brings about miracles..change takes hard work, commitment and patience. It takes time for transformation to be integrated in a persons life..the key is to follow the path with a sense of joy.The body is the divine temple for all that lies within, the physical benefits of movement…asana practise,Pilates,or any other mindful exercise whether it is a walk in the park or a step class where one is completely present in the moment are undoubtedly important, but the effects on the inner self cannot be measured. There is after all the old adage” a healthy body harbors a healthy mind”and in most revered texts of buddhism , hindu philosophy and I am certain others having a control over the mind is the ultimate goal.I CAN PERSONALLY SAY THAT I HAVE NEVER HAD OR TAUGHT A MOVEMENT PRACTICE WHERE I DID NOT LEARN SOMETHING NEW OR DID NOT FEEL THAT THIS WAS THE TAO….of course one has to learn to be open to such possibilities and integrate a sense of spirituality into everyday acts……..and if you do so the possibilities are infinite!

Harmony,is the ultimate reward for our hard work and patience.IT IS WHEN YOU WALK OUT OF A SESSION FEELING REJUVENATED,YET FEELING MUSCLES YOU HAD NOT FELT BEFORE AND THE DEPTH EACH BREATH BRINGS…also important is to remember that homeostasis is a moving target, hence what seems harmonising today may feel out of balance tomorrow, but if you learn to integrate the potential of the mind in every moment ,YOU WILL DISCOVER THE JOY IN MOVEMENT!

WE SHALL NOT CEASE FROM EXPLORATION,AND THE END OF EXPLORING WILL BE TO ARRIVE WHERE WE STARTED AND KNOW THE PLACE FOR THE FIRST TIME…..T.S.ELLIOT

LOVE,LIGHT AND INFINITE POSSIBILITIES

why am I here??

Why am I here!! What is my purpose?…till I find the answer to that question in this lifetimes or in lifetimes to come…..I will try to find an answer to why am in Santa Fe?A question often asked ever since I  made the decision to move to New Mexico….the only intelligent answer I have which is probably not so intelligent is, it was a calling, and I decided to follow it. we are all but one

Coming from a culture which gave yoga to the world..I am extremely humbled by the fact that yoga is a gift to me from the west.I am amazed, inspired and awed by the wisdom ,spirituality, expertise and guidance which my western teachers have encompassed.I will forever, with folded hands and a bowed head be their student.

This learning from the west has also reinforced what I have always believed in..”we are all but one”..the color of our skin, where we come from, the way we speak just makes us more easily identifiable while leading our paths in this world….Other than that our heartbeats, our seeking and even the color of our blood is identical, and when we go beyond the differences of nationality, religion and culture all of humanity becomes our family…so thank you GOD for giving me a family everywhere I go!!!!!!

in gratitude to the practice that saved me

The joy is in the journey…

The awareness and awakening, I experience everyday in my work…aaha..!sometimes in the serenity of teaching yoga, sometimes in the clanging of weights, sometimes in the endorphin rush of endurance, sometimes in the stillness of meditation, are equally nourishing to my mind ,body and soul as spending a few days in a retreat…..the joy is in the journey…yes, its great to find  the  space, time, and money for retreats which take you away from the rough and tumble of life and I highly recommend it , I also invite you  to make your everyday life ……exercising, cooking, driving, cleaning, a place to explore the same stillness you may receive while surrounded by people and teachers who are on the same path.If we can find a place which is  quiet inside of us, then the gym could be noisy, the yoga teacher not what you expect, the driver behind you honking, or the cooking a disaster, you will learn that this moment is the perfect teacher ,and the joy is in journey……

in gratitude for my work

spring is in the air

Spring is the air…the fresh breeze, the sunshine, the smell of flowers, the sweet smell of mangoes(…..i had to share this wonderful mango arugula recipe…yummm…).as you enjoy the amazing flavor of the fruits and vegetables that spring offers, remember also to move this form we call our body..movement is a medium for creating a  change in our physical, emotional and mental state

So walk and smell the roses,go to  a dance class ,lift some weights, practice yoga on and off the mat.

1 mango

2 cups arugula

10-15 kalamata olives

my very special dressing

balsamic vinegar with crushed raspberries, you can also use red wine vinegar(3-4 tablespoons)

olive oil(1/2-1 tablespoon)

lemon(1/2)

maple syrup or honey(1 -2 tsp)

salt n pepper to taste

mix the ingredients of the dressing and set aside

cut mango into bite size pieces and lay on bottom of plate, layer with arugula and kalmata olives and drizzle with dressing(as little or as much as you want)

toss silvered toasted almonds

Off to New Mexico…there is something about the place that has placed itself in my heart…a tug that pulls me towards it…

love and enjoy each breath

(My loved ones,i should apologize for not so perfect alignment, writing etc…i am one of the few less computer savvy people in the world..i would rather handwrite to this day..do i want to be in touch with the world through technology…YES….Do i want to spend my energy learning the nitty-gritty of what i can do without…NO…..This just my way of being in touch with all my fellow earth people,a hand of love and support to those i cannot touch more physically…and if its less than perfect…IT IS OK  WITH ME IF IT IS ALRIGHT WITH YOU)

Food and Feeding….

Faith…what keeps me guided,Fitness..what keeps me moving..and FOOD....what keeps me nourished not just by its intake, but its preparation, being able to feed it to those who surround me…Hence flourished the idea of opening Cafe Kailash, where a mindful set of people could enjoy conscious movement, the power of meditation and my home cooked meals.

Not so long ago a person who brought up the topic of what to eat would be considered a Faddist..today more food notions are prevalent in our world ,as is the amount and variety of food, unlike many parts of the earth where getting one square meal is a miracle.

What does one do in a situation when one book asks you to eat by your blood type and another magazine asks you to go on a raw food diet….hmm???

all I would invite you to do is to listen to your body…it for  decisions of this kind that we should follow the frontal lobe of the brain and decisions like what to do with the path of your life listen to your gut..we often do the opposite.

Ask as yourself as you drive through a fast food chain is this taking me towards health and radiance so that my presence may benefit this world?if the answer is No..stay away, without a rigid plan of action involved …make your choices with an awareness and not an agenda and watch the choices become acts of joy rather than discipline.

Eat with tools that are inborn..instinct,logic and reasoning. After all it makes no sense to eat fat to lose it…..

with you on this journey

Namaste,hello,aloha

I haven’t disappeared…..just got busy in the mundane yet necessary things of life!Food…fitness….faith…to me they are all shades of the spectrum we call life….

Food….yes real healthy ,hearty, nourishing, natural food which includes the big bad carbohydrates and fats is an essential part of living a life of fitness…for Fitness is not about having a six-pack abdomen or the buxom of a Barbie doll,it is living a life which is present and aware,a life which benefits others as much as it benefits oneself and exercise which is mindful is an important part of that fitness…Faith…aaha…that is everything…faith in the universe, faith in absolute power of that absolute, faith in the power of love, faith in following your heart ,faith in yourself……..faith that food is not evil as it is made out to be..faith that mindful movement..be it a sweat dripping strength training session,a walk in the park, dancing in a sexy zumba class or a meditative yoga practice

…each one  is beneficial to some of us or all of us as long as we know that the reason behind fitness is not vanity alone but self-care and nurturing so we may live a life that has a purpose………so my loved ones get ready to move that body and soul!

love and infinite gratitude
